Boğaziçi University President Gülay Barbarosoğlu delivered the keynote address at this year’s World Leadership Forum. Organized annually in New York City by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA) to coincide with the United Nations General Assembly, the topic of this year’s Forum was “The Growing Global Economy”. The only participant from Turkey, President Barbarosoğlu, speaking at the Harvard Club, focused on the role that socio-economic development and growth play in education, and on the effect of education on social development in Turkey.

The wind turbine that was installed as part of the Bogaziçi University Wind Power Plant (BÜRES) project at the Bogaziçi University Sarıtepe Campus started to generate electricity on Dec. 27, 2014, making it the only campus in the world that "meets the whole of its electricity demands from its own wind power plant."

Times Higher Education (THE) announced its University Ranking for 22 countries labeled as BRICS and Emerging Economies (BRICS & EE). Boğaziçi University was ranked 7th this year. The same scores used to determine the 2014 THE rankings, in which Boğaziçi was ranked among the top 150 world universities as 139th, were used in the BRICS and Emerging Economies Ranking with slightly different weights. Three universities from Turkey made it to the top 10, and five made it into the top 20.
The “Computer Technologies in the Early Diagnosis of Colon Cancer and Brain Mapping” research project developed by Asst. Prof. Burak Acar at Boğaziçi University made significant headway in the early detection of colon cancer by virtual colonoscopy.
Held this year under the name “A Magical Day”, the Alumni Summit was conceptualized by Boğaziçi University alumni to strengthen the ties between the university and its graduates. Leading alumni from various fields came together to share their experiences and discuss issues ranging from politics, science, technology, women, life, business and finance to culture and the arts. Following an opening statement by Boğaziçi University President Gülay Barbarosoğlu, lectures were held in various classrooms and halls on the South Campus starting at 10a.m. and continuing throughout the day on Saturday, November 22, 2014.
