Boğaziçi University President Gülay Barbarosoğlu and a committee of academicians from the University met with officials from prominent universities in Boston and Chicago on September 17-24, 2015, with a view to enhancing Boğaziçi University’s international collaboration with these universities. The committee comprised Professor Ali İzzet Tekcan, Provost; Professor Taner Bilgiç, Vice Provost; Professor Taylan Akdoğan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences; and Asu Nisa Kırdar, Global Outreach Coordinator.
Boğaziçi University hosted the Summit Meeting of the C20 (Civil20), an international policy and advocacy platform and an official engagement group of the G20. The Summit took place at Boğaziçi University and brought together around 400 civil representatives from 52 countries. The slogan of the Summit was “We Say That...”
The Summit, which brought together people from different social segments from over 50 countries, focused on recommendations for a solution to economic inequalities — an issue of high priority for NGOs.
Researchers will soon be able to access institutional and private archives dating from the late 1800’s to the present at Boğaziçi University’s new Archives and Documentation Center to be housed in the “Nafi Baba Culture and Global Values Building” located on the historical hilltop of the University’s South Campus. Restoration work is underway at the building once known as “Nafi Baba Tekkesi”. The building itself as well as the Archives and Documentation Center it houses will enhance the academic and cultural value of Nafi Baba hill.

Boğaziçi University’s Kilyos Sarıtepe campus is a candidate to become the first university campus in the world to meet all of its electricity needs from its own wind power plant. Its claim to become a green campus has been enhanced with the signing of the protocol on the Sarıtepe Campus Reforestation and Nature Park Project, which aims to create biodiversity on and around the campus. By signing the protocol on September 4, 2015, BU and the TEMA Foundation have taken the first steps towards a nature project that will continue until 2025.
Researchers at Boğaziçi University have developed a tablet-based, wireless audiometer. The device is compatible with new generation technology and will play a significant role in the diagnosis of hearing loss.
The team that developed the first multiple robot system under the leadership of Professor H. Levent Akın, Dean of Boğaziçi University’s Faculty of Engineering and lecturer at the Computer Engineering Department, participated in the 19th RoboCup World Competition in China. The team competed in the RoboCup Soccer category with a soccer team consisting of robots. The soccer team reached the quarterfinals and therefore will not have to go through the qualification process to participate in RoboCup2016.
Boğaziçi University hosted the 10th Summit Meeting of Youth-20 (Y20), the official Outreach Program of G20, on August 16-21, 2015. The Summit was organized by the Youth Commission for Diplomacy and Collaboration (YCDC), with the support of the term presidency of G20, which is currently held by Turkey. The Summit started on August 17.
According to the results of the 2015 Undergraduate Placement Examination (LYS), Boğaziçi is again the first choice of students. 103 of the total number of students who ranked in the top 100 in each score type selected Boğaziçi University. Of all public universities, Boğaziçi University has the highest base score in all departments.
Mehmet Ulusoy, a graduate of Boğaziçi University, has carried fine dining to a different level with his “Lezzet Manzaraları”, a platform that seeks to integrate some of Turkey’s breathtaking scenery with the exquisite tastes of Turkish cuisine. Mehmet Ulusoy, entrepreneur and a “schooled” chef, spoke to Boğaziçi Magazine, the monthly publication of the BU Alumni Association, about his new initiative.
