The Boğaziçi University Lifelong Learning Center (BÜYEM) and the University of Pristina collaborated with the Limak Group, which operates Kosovo’s only international airport, the Pristina International Airport Adem Jashari, and launched the Limak Airport Services Institute (LimakASI) to offer new career opportunities to Kosovo’s young and talented workforce.
Initiated by Boğaziçi University to mark its 150th year, the “Second Spring” program run with the contribution of Harvard University is ready for the new semester. The program, which allows participants to receive a university-level education, was met with great interest in the 2013/14 academic year and is ready to offer a more diverse program and a greater selection of classes in the new term.
The Ministry of Science, Industry, and Technology has approved Borsa Istanbul and Boğaziçi University’s joint application to establish a technopark that will host firms that develop financial software, systems, and products within the context of the “Istanbul International Financial Center”. The finance-themed project will be founded on the Borsa Istanbul campus.
The historic Halet Çambel Manor in Arnavutköy is being restored under the aegis of Boğaziçi University’s History and Cultural Heritage Research Projects, run with support from the Ministry of Development. The manor will host academic studies in the fields of archaeology and architectural history under the name of the Halet Çambel and Nail Çakırhan Center for Archaeology and Traditional Architecture Studies.
Founder of America’s best-selling yogurt brand Chobani, and considered among the top 1500 influential people in global markets, renowned entrepreneur Hamdi Ulukaya, originally from Erzincan, offered Boğaziçi University students tips for successful start-ups.
After winning the Gold Medal at the Stage 1 Turkish Cup Race in October, the Boğaziçi Rowing Team again placed first at the Stage 2 Race. The team is now set on participating in the Boat Race in Belgium in February 2015 and returning to Turkey with a medal.
The Boğaziçi University Commission to Prevent Sexual Harassment (CİTÖK), the Boğaziçi University Solidarity Network against Sexual Harassment, and the Boğaziçi University Women’s Studies Club (BÜKAK) organized a “Midnight Walk” on October 23, 2014. Organized in response to incidents of harassment in the Hisarüstü and Uçaksavar neighborhoods, the walk started at 9 PM at the entrance to the North Campus.
Boğaziçi University entered the THE top 150 world universities in teaching, research, information transfer, and international outlook - considered the core activities of universities - while a total of four universities from Turkey made the top 200 for the first time. Boğaziçi first made the THE list last year, ranking 199th.
In the 2014/15 rankings, Boğaziçi University shared the 399th place with Bilkent University. The QS World University Rankings, which rank the world’s top universities, were announced on September 16, 2014. Both universities were the first universities from Turkey to place in the top 400 in this year’s rankings.
Boğaziçi University granted an honorary doctorate to Ara Güler, one of Turkey’s most renowned photographers. At a ceremony held on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, the veteran photographer was presented with an honorary doctorate for the high technical and artistic quality of his photos and his contributions to presenting Turkey’s history and daily life to the world.
